Vesicularia dubyana 'Christmas', known as Christmas moss, is a compact moss from Brazil that stays around 1 to 3cm tall. Its side shoots branch out in a triangular, fir-tree pattern, which is what sets it apart from ordinary Java moss and gives it the festive name. It sits low on hardscape and works well through the midground and foreground.
It attaches readily to roots and stones, so you can tie or glue it to wood and rock and let it knit on. Growth is moderate and a little slower than plain Java moss, which actually makes it easy to keep tidy. A light trim now and then keeps the fir-tree shape dense and neat, and it does its best in a stable tank with decent light. Rewarding once it settles in.

This moss is harvested fresh and algae free, and its conversion to submerged growth begins in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once it settles into your aquarium. Submerged means grown fully underwater, the form it takes in your tank. Emersed means grown above the waterline with leaves in humid air, a form some plants are started in before they adapt to life underwater.
