Anubias barteri var. nana, often just called nana, is a compact rosette-forming epiphyte from Cameroon that reaches around 5 to 10cm tall. Its rounded dark green leaves are thick and tough, and it sits well in the foreground or midground attached to wood or stone.
This is one of the easiest plants to grow. It grows slowly and holds its leaves for years, so it stays tidy with very little work and does well even in low light and shady spots where other plants struggle. Tie or wedge it onto driftwood or rock and let the roots take hold, and keep the rhizome above the substrate so it does not rot. It flowers readily under water and is left alone by herbivorous fish, which makes it a dependable choice for community and nano tanks.
