Anubias sp. 'Petite', commonly sold as Anubias nana Petite, is a miniature rhizome plant with very small dark green leaves that stay under 5cm tall. It grows from a creeping rhizome of about 5 to 10cm and branches freely into dense little clumps, so it works beautifully attached to stones and driftwood in the foreground to midground.
This is an easygoing plant that prefers gentler light and does not need much to look its best. Attach it to hardscape with fishing line until the roots take hold, and if you set it near the substrate keep the rhizome fully exposed, as burying it can cause the rhizome to rot. Its slow, steady growth and small size make it ideal for nano tanks and miniature layouts, while it still draws the eye in larger aquascapes. It first appeared as a cultivated mutation at the Oriental aquarium plant nursery in Singapore, and it carries an NZ status of Rare.
