Cryptocoryne beckettii 'Petchii' is a compact crypt from Sri Lanka, a smaller form of Cryptocoryne beckettii. It forms a low rosette of leaves 10 to 15cm long with gently fluted margins that turn dark olive-brown on top with a violet underside. Like most crypts, the exact colour and leaf shape shift with the conditions in your tank.
In your tank it works well across the foreground and midground, spreading slowly by runners to fill in a natural clump over time. It is happy in low light and needs no CO2, so it suits low-tech setups, community tanks and nano aquascapes. A nutrient-rich substrate and the odd root tab keep it growing strongly, and its slow pace means very little trimming. If a few leaves melt back after planting, that is normal for a crypt settling into new water; leave the roots alone and fresh growth follows.
