Description
Echinodorus horizontalis, the horizontal sword, is a South American rosette plant named for the way its broad leaves arch out sideways rather than standing upright. Mature leaves are a deep green, and the plant reaches 20 to 40cm depending on your conditions. Its spreading habit makes it a natural centrepiece for the midground to background.
Grown as a rosette from a central crown, it appreciates a nutrient rich substrate and steady water flow. It is an easygoing grower that does well in low tech tanks and responds with fuller, healthier leaves when given CO2 and richer feeding. Growth is slow and steady, so it holds its shape without taking over, and trimming the oldest outer leaves keeps the crown looking fresh.

Our plants are harvested fresh and sent to you algae free. The conversion to submerged growth starts in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once the plant settles into your aquarium.
Submerged means grown fully underwater, the form the plant takes once established in your tank. Emersed means grown with the leaves above the waterline, as many aquarium plants are farmed, before they adapt to life underwater.
