Description
Echinodorus 'Rose Sword', also sold as Echinodorus 'Rosé', is a cultivated hybrid between Echinodorus horemanii 'Red' and Echinodorus horizontalis, developed in 1986 by Hans Barth in Dessau, Germany. New leaves emerge in shades of pink to bronze-red and settle into deep green as they mature, held on broad, oblong blades. It forms a bold rosette that works well from the midground back into the background as a centrepiece.
Growing to around 25 to 40cm tall with a rosette spanning roughly 15 to 25cm, this is an easygoing sword for a nutrient-rich substrate. It does fine under lower light, and extra light along with CO2 will lift the colour and speed things up, though neither is essential. Root tabs under the crown feed the heavy root system and keep new growth strong. Propagate by dividing the rhizome or by growing on the adventitious plantlets that appear on flower stalks.

Harvested fresh and algae free, this plant is grown emersed, so the conversion to its submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks. That head start maximises success once it settles into your aquarium, where it will push out fresh submerged leaves over the following weeks.
Submerged: grown fully underwater, the form the plant takes once established in your aquarium. Emersed: grown with the leaves above the waterline, the form many aquarium plants are farmed in before they transition to submerged growth.
