Description

Echinodorus tenellus, also known as Pygmy Chain Sword, is one of the easiest carpeting plants to grow—making it a fantastic choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers. Its narrow, grass-like leaves spread quickly via runners, forming a natural, low-growing carpet that enhances any foreground layout.

This species is well-suited for low-tech aquariums, thriving even without CO₂ injection or intense lighting. In high-tech setups, it grows faster and stays more compact, but even in simpler tanks, it steadily forms lush green coverage with minimal effort.

At Aquascaping Essentials, our tissue culture plants are densely packed and sealed for freshness, ensuring you receive an abundance of healthy plants that are pest, snail, algae, and disease-free. This guarantees exceptional value for money while providing a clean and thriving start for your aquascape.

Key Features

  • Ideal for low-tech setups – no CO₂ required
  • Fast-growing, low-profile carpeting plant
  • Spreads through runners to cover substrate over time
  • Clean and safe tissue culture – no snails, algae, or contaminants
  • Perfect for natural and Iwagumi-style layouts

Care Instructions

  • Lighting: Low to high light tolerated; medium to high light encourages faster spread
  • CO₂: Optional; improves density and growth speed
  • Fertiliser: Root tabs or nutrient-rich substrate recommended
  • Water Parameters: pH 6.0–7.5, temperature 20–28°C
  • Growth Habit: Propagates via runners beneath the substrate
  • Trimming: Trim tops to maintain uniform height and promote lateral spread

How to Plant Tissue Culture:

  1. Remove plant from cup and rinse off the nutrient gel under clean water.
  2. Use aquascaping scissors or tweezers to divide the plant into small clumps.
  3. Plant directly into aquarium substrate using tweezers.
