Helanthium tenellum, the pygmy chain sword, is a small grass-like plant with thin narrow leaves that sit low across the front of the tank. It spreads by runners into a lawn, and in high-tech tanks the new growth on the narrow-leaved form can flush a rich red that draws the eye. This is a natural mid to foreground carpeting plant.
In your tank it wants to spread and fill in, growing as a low lawn the way it does in the wild. It stays happy in modest light and does not need CO2, so it suits beginners and community tanks alike. You can run it as a solid carpet, or let sparse stems rise up through a shorter carpet of another plant to add depth. In an iwagumi it works nicely as a second-tier foreground plant, and being a marsh plant by nature it also does well in paludariums as long as the roots stay wet.
