Hemianthus micranthemoides, known as pearl weed, is a bright green stem plant with fine, delicate leaves and a compact, bushy habit. It is a versatile species that works in the foreground or midground, and with a little shaping it can be guided into a low, textured carpet.
In your tank pearl weed is easy to work with and quick to establish. With strong light and CO2 it spreads low and horizontal, filling in like a carpeting plant when trimmed regularly, similar in effect to Monte Carlo. In simpler setups it grows more upright and bushy, which makes it a great midground filler and a good way to add layering in nano and nature-style aquascapes. It propagates readily: trim the tops and replant the cuttings to thicken the group.

Our pearl weed is harvested fresh and algae free. The conversion to its submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once it settles into your aquarium.
Submerged: the fully aquatic form that grows underwater in your tank, with the soft, fine foliage pearl weed is loved for. Emersed: the above-water form grown with leaves in humid air and roots wet, which is how many aquarium plants are cultivated before they transition to life underwater.
