Description
Description
Heteranthera zosterifolia, better known as star grass, is a fine-leaved stem plant from South America. Its narrow, light green leaves radiate out in loose star-shaped whorls up the stem, giving it a soft, feathery look. It sits well in the foreground or midground, where a group of stems reads as a bright green thicket.
Star grass is an easygoing grower that stays compact and low in good light and can be kept dense by trimming and replanting the healthy tops. A nutrient-rich substrate and some added CO2 help it fill in quickly and hold its neat, bushy shape. If a few shoots are allowed to reach the surface in an open tank, it can send up small blue flowers.
