Description
Description
Hydrocotyle verticillata is an eye-catching aquatic plant with a growth habit unlike most others in the hobby. Often called the “Umbrella Plant”, it features rounded, flat-topped leaves that resemble miniature lily pads or parasols, rising on thin vertical stems.
This North and South American native grows low and creeps horizontally, making it a unique option for foreground planting or carpeting in both submerged and emersed conditions. Under strong light and with CO₂ support, it forms a dense, whimsical ground cover that brings a playful, natural aesthetic to aquascapes.
In shallow aquariums and paludariums, its emersed growth produces even more defined “umbrella” leaves and can be used creatively in transitional or amphibious planting zones.
