Hydrocotyle verticillata, the umbrella plant, has round, flat-topped leaves that look like miniature parasols or tiny lily pads, each rising on a thin vertical stem. It is a North and South American native that creeps low and horizontally across the substrate. This makes it a genuinely different-looking choice for the foreground of a planted tank.
In your tank it spreads by creeping runners to form a low, playful ground cover. Give it strong light and it stays compact and dense, filling in across the foreground and along low borders. CO2 helps it grow lusher and spread faster, and it will draw nutrients from both a rich substrate and the water column. It also does well grown emersed in shallow tanks and paludariums, where the umbrella leaves become even more defined. Trim and replant sections to guide where it fills in.

Every plant is harvested fresh and algae free. Conversion to the submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once it settles into your aquarium. Submerged growth is the form that lives fully underwater. Emersed growth is grown with the leaves above the waterline, as it would appear along a shallow margin or in a paludarium.
