After an easy, undemanding plant that still looks refined? Water Wisteria delivers. Native to the Indian subcontinent, this amphibious species adapts quickly and shows classic heterophylly: broader, oval leaves when grown emersed, and finely divided “fern-like” leaves once submerged. In most tanks it settles without fuss, helping to stabilise new layouts by growing fast and soaking up nutrients.
Give it low–medium light for relaxed, airy growth, or stronger light and good nutrition for denser stands with crisp leaf definition. CO₂ isn’t essential, but it will push speed and fullness if you’re chasing that manicured look. Height typically lands around 20–30 cm in modest setups and can stretch toward 40–50 cm in roomier, brighter aquariums, making it an easy mid- to background choice that won’t bulldoze the scape. Trim the tops, replant the cuttings, and you’ll have a lush, full group in no time.
Choose Emersed if you’re happy with a brief transition as the plant swaps to its submerged leaf shape, or go Submerged for a quicker “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” start. Either way, expect fast, cooperative growth and a clean, vibrant green that plays nicely with rocks, wood and red accent plants.
