Ludwigia x lacustris, often sold as Ludwigia arcuata, is a rare natural hybrid of L. brevipes and L. palustris from the eastern and south-eastern United States. It is a narrow-leaved stem plant whose slim foliage warms from green to red under good light. Its fine texture suits the midground and background, where a group of stems adds a soft red contrast against broader green plants.
Grow it in small groups of stems and let them fill in for a fuller effect. Medium light and CO2 bring out the best red tones and keep growth compact, and regular trimming encourages side shoots and a bushier group. Growth is moderate and steady once it has settled in.
