Nymphaea stellata, the dwarf lily, is a varied species with reddish leaves that make it a natural centrepiece in the midground of a planted tank. It grows as a rosette from a bulb, first sending up a flush of underwater leaves before it starts to reach for the surface. The red tones give a warm contrast against green surroundings.
To keep it low and bushy in your tank, prune the roots and any leaves heading upward, and it will keep producing new submerged growth. A nutritious substrate encourages strong growth, and with medium light it holds its reddish colour well. Left to mature it sometimes sends a stem to the water surface with a floating leaf and an aromatic, elegant lily flower. It suits indoor aquariums of most sizes.

Every plant is harvested fresh and algae free. Conversion to submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once it settles into your aquarium. Submerged means the plant is growing underwater, the form it takes inside your tank. Emersed means it was grown with its leaves above the waterline, so some early leaves may adapt or drop as it transitions to full submerged growth.
