Qanvee QS Bio Sponge Filter

The Qanvee QS Bio Sponge Filter is a quiet, air-driven filter built for shrimp tanks, breeding setups, fry, and community tanks. It runs off an air pump rather than electricity, so the flow stays gentle and safe for the smallest livestock while still keeping water clean and well oxygenated.

As water is drawn through the sponge, it traps waste particles mechanically while the foam surface builds a dense colony of beneficial nitrifying bacteria for biological filtration. The result is clearer, healthier water and a steady supply of biofilm that shrimp love to graze on. Because sponge filters are gentle and have no intake slots, they're a favourite for breeding tanks where fry and baby shrimp need to stay safe.

An optimised air outlet grille produces a high air output with fine bubbles and low noise, and resists clogging over time. The air pipework is routed to the back of the unit for a clean look from the front, the outlet height and direction are adjustable, and the telescopic outlet tube extends from 195 mm to 275 mm to suit different tank depths. Suction cups are included to hold it firmly in place. It works in both freshwater and saltwater tanks.

Choosing your version

Two choices: how much sponge, and whether you want the media box.

Size sets the sponge surface area. More sponge means more mechanical capacity and more biological surface for beneficial bacteria, so the larger sizes suit busier or more heavily stocked tanks, while the smaller sizes suit nano tanks, quarantine, and breeding setups. Many keepers run the smaller units as dedicated breeding or secondary filters and the larger ones as a tank's primary biological filter.

• QS-100 — 115 mm sponge on a compact 135 mm footprint. The entry option.
• QS-200 — 140 mm sponge, 150 mm footprint. More sponge volume.
• QS-100A — taller 150 mm sponge plus 2 media chambers, same compact 135 mm footprint.
• QS-200A — largest, 186 mm sponge plus 2 media chambers, 150 mm footprint.

The "A" versions add two media chambers for running extra biological or chemical media (bio rings, ceramic noodles, activated carbon, Purigen and similar), and they also give you a noticeably taller sponge than the matching standard model. Stepping up to an "A" gets you both an added filtration stage and more sponge surface in one move.

Specifications

Please note: an air pump and airline tubing are required and are not included. The "A" versions ship with the media chambers empty, so you can fill them with the filter media of your choice. Filter media is not included.
