Barclaya longifolia, or barclaya, is an uncommon bulbous aquatic plant with long, narrow leaves that ripple at the edges. In good conditions the leaves take on a deep maroon red, making it a natural focal point in the midground where its foliage has room to arch and stand out.
It grows into a large specimen and looks its best surrounded by green stem plants and a low carpet, which set off the red foliage. It gives its richest maroon colour under strong light with added CO2 and fertiliser. In lower light it still grows, though the leaves tend to be plainer and lean towards a bronze tone, so more light is the simplest way to bring out the red.

Our stock is harvested fresh and algae free, and conversion to the submerged form begins in our grow-out tanks to maximise success once it settles into your aquarium. A short adjustment period is normal as it adapts.
Submerged: growing fully underwater, the form the plant settles into inside your aquarium. Emersed: grown with the leaves above the waterline, common during propagation, which then transitions to submerged growth once planted.
