Rotala macrandra, often just called rotala macrandra, is a stem plant known for its warm red to pink foliage and soft, rounded leaves running up the stem. Planted in a group it makes a bright red focal point in the midground or background.
It gives its best red colour with strong light, and CO2 along with soft water keep the growth healthy and steady. Plant several stems together for a full, colourful group, but leave a little space between shoots so light still reaches the lower leaves. Keeping enough micronutrients in the water helps hold that colour. It is a rewarding plant once it settles in, and stems may arrive green before they colour up under your lighting.
