Sagittaria subulata, known as dwarf sagittaria, is a grassy South American plant with narrow bright green blades that grow from a central crown. Its short runners spread sideways to form a compact group, and it usually sits in the foreground or lower midground of the tank.
It is an easygoing, undemanding plant that spreads on its own by sending out short runners, filling in a fresh green patch over time. Space individual plants around 2 to 4cm apart to help them knit together. In some tanks older plants stretch taller, up to about 50cm, so if yours reaches for the light you can simply move it back into the midground or background where the extra height looks natural. Now and then it sends up a long flower stem and opens small white flowers just above the water surface.

Our plants are harvested fresh and algae free. The conversion to their submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks, which maximises success once the plant settles into your aquarium.
Submerged means growing fully underwater, the form the plant keeps in your aquarium. Emersed means grown with the leaves above the waterline, as many plants are raised before they transition to life underwater.
