Vallisneria spiralis 'Torta', or Twisted Vallisneria, is a cultivar with narrow ribbon leaves that spiral into loose corkscrews as they rise. It sits at the back of the tank, where the twisting blades catch the light and any water movement. The effect is a wall of green with a bit more texture and motion than the straight-leaved form.
In your tank it works as a background plant that fills in on its own, sending out runners that spread into a dense stand of tall, flowing cover. It is an easy grower that settles into a wide range of setups. Given medium light it grows well without CO2, and a nutrient-rich substrate or root tabs will keep it healthy. The tall leaves give fish something to swim through and shy species somewhere to shelter, and the tough blades hold up to gentle grazing.

Our Twisted Vallisneria is harvested fresh and algae free, and its conversion to submerged form starts in our grow-out tanks to maximise success once it settles into your aquarium.
Submerged means the plant is grown fully underwater, the form it takes once established in your tank. Emersed means grown with the leaves above the waterline, which is how many aquarium plants are farmed before they adapt to life underwater.
