The CO₂ itself, in a sensible quantity

This is the gas. If you've got our Wyin Aqua Mini CO₂ Regulator  or any other mini regulator that takes threaded disposable cartridges — these are the cartridges that screw into it.

Each cartridge holds 16g of food-grade CO₂ at around 850 psi. Thread one in, and it's ready to inject. When the gauge reads empty, unscrew it and put a fresh one on. We sell them in 5-packs because that's a reasonable amount to keep on hand without overcommitting.

Why food-grade matters

Industrial CO₂ cartridges are cheap, and they'll inflate a bike tyre just fine. Putting one on an aquarium is a different story. Industrial-grade gas can carry trace residues from the manufacturing line; oil, sulphur compounds, other contaminants that don't bother a tyre but can stress or kill fish, shrimp and sensitive plants.

Our cartridges are food-grade: ≥99.5% pure CO₂, ≤0.5% water content, certified to the same spec used for beverage carbonation. Safe for any livestock, including sensitive species like Caridina shrimp.

Compatibility

The 3/8"-24 UNF thread is the standard for disposable threaded CO₂ cartridges and fits:

• Wyin Aqua Mini CO₂ Regulator (the natural pairing — see ours here)
• Most other mini aquarium CO₂ regulators with disposable-cartridge inlets
• Paintball CO₂ regulators
  
• Some bike inflators and inflatable life jacket systems

How long does a cartridge last?

Honestly, it depends almost entirely on your bubble rate. A nano tank running 1 bps uses a fraction of what a 40L tank running 3 bps does, and a solenoid switching CO₂ off overnight roughly halves daily consumption. Diffuser efficiency, tubing seal quality and water temperature all play smaller parts.

Important notes

• Cartridges are single-use. Once empty, recycle the steel cylinder with scrap metal  they're steel and fully recyclable.
• Keep below 50°C. Don't store in direct sunlight, near radiators, in vehicles in summer, or anywhere ambient temperature could climb. CO₂ pressure rises sharply with heat.
• Don't pierce, crush or incinerate. Even an empty-looking cartridge can hold residual pressure.
• Always pair with a regulator. Never connect a cartridge directly to CO₂ tubing or a diffuser. The unregulated pressure will damage equipment and is genuinely dangerous.
