The Blood Red Oscar is a striking color variant of the popular Astronotus ocellatus, known for its bold personality and vivid red-orange body. This South American cichlid is intelligent, interactive, and often forms strong recognition of its owners—making it a favourite among freshwater fish keepers.
At 8–10 cm, these young Oscars are already showing their signature red tones, which will deepen and intensify as they mature. With a stocky build, rounded fins, and responsive behaviour, they make both a visual and interactive impact in the aquarium.
Best kept in a large tank (minimum 200 L), Blood Red Oscars prefer warm, soft water between 24–28°C and a pH range of 6.5–7.5. They are omnivores with a preference for high-protein foods such as pellets, worms, and shrimp. Due to their territorial nature and size (up to 35 cm as adults), tank mates should be chosen carefully.
