Flash Pleco (L204)
The Flash Pleco (L204), Panaqolus albivermis, is a visually stunning dwarf pleco species from the Ucayali River system in Peru. It features a sleek, dark brown to black body covered in thin, pale white or yellowish stripes—creating a bold, high-contrast appearance that stands out in any aquarium.
This peaceful species grows to around 12–15 cm and thrives in warm (24–29 °C), soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–7.5). It prefers a well-oxygenated tank with moderate flow, soft sand or smooth gravel, and plenty of driftwood, which is essential both for shelter and digestion—since the Flash Pleco is a true wood-eating (xylivore) species.
While it’s not a heavy algae grazer, the Flash Pleco contributes to a clean aquarium by grazing on biofilm and detritus. Feed a diet rich in vegetable-based sinking wafers, spirulina, and blanched vegetables, with occasional protein-based foods like bloodworms.
It is generally peaceful and well-suited for community aquariums, but may show territorial behavior toward other plecos if hiding spaces are limited. Provide several caves or driftwood tunnels to reduce stress and promote natural behavior.
