Mustard Spot Pleco (LDA031)

The Mustard Spot Pleco (LDA031) is a beautiful and uncommon pleco species prized for its velvety black body covered in bright yellow or mustard-colored spots. Native to fast-flowing waters in the Rio Xingu of Brazil, this pleco is both eye-catching and functional, helping to keep algae under control in large tropical aquariums.

This species can grow up to 25 cm and prefers warm, oxygen-rich water with strong filtration and current. A soft sand or smooth gravel substrate with caves and hiding places is ideal. They do well in peaceful community tanks, especially when given space and structure.

Mustard Spot Plecos are omnivores with a strong preference for protein-based foods. Feed them a varied diet of sinking carnivore pellets, wafers, blanched vegetables (like zucchini), and frozen foods such as bloodworms or shrimp.

Due to their natural habitat, they thrive in water temperatures between 26–30 °C and a pH of 6.5–7.5. Like many plecos from the Xingu, stable water quality is key to their health.
