Pinoy Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare)
The Pinoy Angelfish is a striking color morph of Pterophyllum scalare, known for its deep slate blue to near-black body, often accented with iridescent blue highlights. A result of selective crossbreeding between Philippine Blue and dark marble angelfish, the Pinoy variety brings a bold and elegant look to any tropical aquarium.
With their graceful fins and tall, laterally compressed bodies, Pinoy Angelfish grow up to 15–20 cm tall and prefer tall aquariums with stable conditions, gentle filtration, and vertical décor such as driftwood or tall plants.
They thrive in warm water (24–29 °C) with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5, and are generally peaceful when kept in small groups. Like all angelfish, they may become territorial during spawning but are otherwise ideal for community aquariums with calm tankmates.
Feed a varied diet of high-quality flakes, micro pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and the occasional vegetable-based food to maintain health and bring out their stunning iridescence.
