Sunshine Pleco (L014) (Scobinancistrus aureatus)
The Sunshine Pleco (L014), also known as Scobinancistrus aureatus or “Goldie Pleco,” is a show-stopping catfish from Brazil’s Rio Xingu. It features a jet-black base adorned with vibrant yellow to orange spots and strikingly colored fins that bring warmth and brightness to any aquarium.
Reaching up to 30 cm, this species thrives in large, well-filtered tanks (minimum 450 L) with strong flow, excellent oxygenation, caves, and driftwood . They prefer soft gravel or sand and subdued lighting to mimic their natural habitat
Sunshine Plecos are omnivorous with a strong preference for protein—think sinking carnivore pellets, bloodworms, mussels—supplemented by algae wafers and veggies like zucchini. They are peaceful toward other species but can be territorial with their own kind, so a solitary adult or well-spaced tank setup is ideal.
Temperament: Peaceful
Diet: Omnivore (wood/grazing)
Colour Form: Black with Yellow Spots
Water Parameters: 24-29°C, pH 6.0-7.2
Maximum Size (cm): 35
Classification: Loricariidae
Minimum Tank Size (litres): 450
Origin: Brazil
